Štěpán Brož (*born 1992, Prague) is a visual artist who primarily works in the field of painting, but also in graphics and illustration. His painting technique involves a time-consuming process of applying coloured glazes and an intuitive—yet meticulous—search for the final form of painting through the use of abstract color spots and imaginative stylization of figures. In his work, he combines the theme of rest with a critical examination of national mythologies, particularly within the context of Central Europe. Through post-ironic strategies, he explores the ambivalent relationship between humanity, landscape, and memory. His paintings offer a glimpse into fragments of narratives unfolding within a fantastical universe, where distorted reflections of our reality emerge from a somber atmosphere.
